SMATRICS Direct Payment Terminal: Cloud-based, hardware-independent and AFIR-compliant

With the new SMATRICS Direct Payment Terminal, payment and billing at charging stations is AFIR-compliant and simpler, more transparent and more secure for both end customers and operators.

SMATRICS presented the new SMATRICS Direct Payment Terminal at the Power2Drive trade fair on June 19, 2024, marking the product launch in the SMATRICS EnBW fast charging network in Austria. The terminal guarantees secure and transparent
NFC or card-based payment processing and enables uncomplicated integration into existing and new e-charging offers.

"Our Direct Payment Terminal is an AFIR-compliant solution for payment and billing for e-charging. In addition, with this innovative, hardware-independent solution, we offer the greatest possible individuality and flexibility, as all services can be covered directly by SMATRICS," explains Hauke Hinrichs, CEO of SMATRICS.

When the Alternative Fuel Infrastructure Regulation (AFIR) comes into force on April 13, 2024, newly installed public charging stations must be able to accept payment with major debit and credit cards. The Direct Payment Terminal specially developed by SMATRICS can be used at all AC and DC charging stations.

The terminals can be installed directly in the charging station or as a separate stele and can also control several charging stations of different types.

Fit for the future with cloud-based payment and billing system for location-based tariffs

Hinrichs emphasizes: "As a 'digital cash register', our cloud-based solution guarantees security and transparency in e-shopping." All cash register transactions are seamlessly recorded and archived. Data is therefore protected against manipulation - just like a supermarket checkout.

This so-called "fiscalization" makes the solution internationally future-proof: currently, fiscalization is only required by law in Austria and is currently suspended in Germany.

As a white label solution, the terminals can be seamlessly integrated into the corporate identity of the respective company. It is also possible to centrally control and individually adjust the tariffs for different locations and store columns.

Pay for charging in the blink of an eye

Charging is even more transparent and easier for e-mobilists: the price per kilowatt hour is visible at the terminal, while a live view also offers a price forecast during the charging session.

End customers can pay at the terminals with all major cards, such as VISA or Mastercard, as well as with NFC-based mobile payment solutions, such as Apple Pay and Google Pay.

The invoice is then sent as a digital receipt in the form of a QR code directly to the smartphone or to an email address to be specified.

Innovative product combined with all-round carefree package

SMATRICS is cooperating with TeleCash for the Direct Payment Terminals and offers all services in one package: from the hardware, including delivery and setup, to ongoing operation and billing services.

"A modern e-charging infrastructure gives our customers a competitive advantage. In order to provide the best possible support here, SMATRICS invests in innovations, such as our direct payment terminals, and offers customers an 'all-round carefree package' to ensure satisfaction on both the operator and end customer side," says Hinrichs.

The first terminals are already in operation at the following locations:

  • Burgenland: Neusiedl BT2 and BILLA Müllendorf
  • Lower Austria: Bauhaus St. Pölten
  • Upper Austria: BILLA Inzersdorf im Kremstal and BILLA Plus Mürzzuschlag
  • Salzburg: BILLA Mattsee
  • Styria: FMZ Mühldorf near Feldbach
  • Vienna: Verteilerkreis Favoriten and McDonalds Margaretengürtel

Further locations are in preparation.
