Frequently asked questions about THG quota & THG premium

Further information on the background to the GHG quota can also be found in our blog post GHG quota in Austria at a glance.

In contrast to fossil fuels, electricity can also be generated sustainably. SMATRICS generates so-called GHG quotas from the amounts of electricity used in your multi-lane e-vehicle (car, truck or bus) and sells these in bundles to companies subject to quotas.

Your GHG quota depends on the period of your admission and is calculated aliquot for your period of admission.

Yes, this is possible. As long as you are listed as the vehicle owner on the registration certificate, you will receive the payment to your account and the Charge & Roam+ tariff free of charge for each registration certificate.

No, with a plug-in hybrid you cannot claim the GHG quota via SMATRICS and carbonify at the moment.

In principle, the owner of the vehicle registration is considered a beneficiary of the THG premium. As there are different leasing contracts, either you or your leasing company can be a beneficiary.

The first name / surname of the registration holder is noted in fields C1.1. and C.1.2. of your registration certificate.

Yes, if you are already a SMATRICS customer, please enter your card number when registering. Your current contract will be changed after validation of your data. The following tariffs will be changed automatically by SMATRICS:

  • Single NET, Smart NET, Active NET
  • SinglePlus NET, SmartPlus NET or ActivePlus NET
  • Charge Basic, Charge Pro or Charge Time
  • Charge Simple, Charge & Roam, Charge & Roam+

If you have a different tariff, you keep your current contract and SMATRICS will send you an additional charge card with the Charge & Roam+ THG tariff.

In our view, the GHG quota is a sensible measure to accelerate the switch from fossil fuels to renewable forms of energy and propulsion. This will reduce the high environmental impact of road transport in the long term and the capital flows resulting from the sale of quotas to companies will favour the further development of sustainable technologies.

In addition, the obligations to reduce greenhouse gas emissions for distributors of fossil fuels are increasing every year and over 50% of these reduction targets must be achieved through own contributions.

As part of our special offer, the Charge & Roam+ tariff is automatically included. SMATRICS will give you the tariff for one year without basic fee. If you don't want to use the Charge & Roam+ tariff, you don't have to - you won't incur any costs.

For you as an e-mobilist, it can also be an advantage in many situations to have access to the nationwide high-power charging network of SMATRIC EnBW.

After one year, your contract is automatically switched to the Charge Simple tariff, which is free of basic charges. You can find more information on the conditions in our tariffs overview.

In addition to cars and buses (vehicle class M), registration is also possible for lorries (vehicle class N) and two-lane motor vehicles in vehicle class L.

You will find the vehicle class in line J on the registration certificate of your e-vehicle.

For each e-vehicle, the respective registration certificate is required for unique identification. In addition, a few personal details, including bank details, are required in order to calculate your GHG quota and then send you the THG premium.

According to our terms and conditions, you have the obligation to inform us without being asked about the deregistration of your e-vehicle. You can change your authorization data in your user profile at any time.

Since the THG premium is an aliquot premium due to legal circumstances, we reserve the right to reclaim the aliquot portion (date of deregistration by December 31, 2024) from you in order to pass this on to the following owner of the e-vehicle as well to enable an aliquot payment of the THG premium.
